Mister is ONE month old! It's crazy how, as usual, time is going so fast! He's growing (over an ounce a day!) and changing constantly. I think we are as settled into life with three kids now. That's not to say there aren't hectic moments! The girls are adjusting well - they love their brother. Dylan went through a little phase of hitting Savannah and Savannah is still being whiney, but who's to say that wouldn't have happened without Adam being here.
Adam fooled me a little bit after he was first born. We went three weeks with him being a good little sleeper. At night he would wake, eat for about 30 - 45 minutes, fall back asleep with no crying and sleep about 3 hours before waking again. One night he slept for a four and a half hour stretch. That all changed with the time change - I'm blaming that, not him. :)
The first 3 nights after the time change, he decided to stay up in the middle of the night for about 3 hours. He didn't cry so it could have been much worse, but he was up which meant I was up. Then he decided he liked to wake up every two hours at night. We are gradually getting back to his old schedule, but not there yet. He is in a habit of snacking instead of getting a full feeding so he's still waking more often. AND the little stinker just wants to be held all night. We have a co-sleeper which is like his own little bed that goes in between Justin and I in our bed. He can be dead asleep, but as soon as you lay him down in it he wakes right up. We are also working on getting him to fall back asleep on his own. Even though I'd love more sleep, it hasn't been too bad. I think me knowing Adam is my last baby and trying to soak up every moment has helped!
I swear he gets cuter and cuter every day. He is also starting to look more like Dylan did as a baby. His eyes are different than hers, but he is still turning into a mini Justin. We will have to wait and see if that continues. He isn't smiling at us quite yet, but he smiles randomly and he has an awesome smile....wait until you see it. I try to get pictures, but so far haven't succeeded.
He is starting to coo and it is the sweetest sound. He occasionally laughs in his sleep. The sound combined with that smile and his whole little body shaking just kills me. It is so funny!
He has been a great little eater. It's safe to say it's his favorite thing to do. He went through a growth spurt recently where he really did eat ALL day long. He's backed off that recently, but still eats plenty.
Adam has been very adaptable and handles running errands and going to all the girls' activities just fine. Overall, he seems pretty laid back which is very helpful!
He tolerates the glider still, has just recently started to really like the swing and does not care for the play mat.
He also has intense eyes, which I love. From the time he was born he seemed to be very focused and alert. He likes to check out his surroundings and stays awake for good lengths of time during the day. He'll be up anywhere from an hour to six hours - you just never know! He has no set nap schedule, but none of my kids ever did. I'm not a schedule person and I think it benefits our lifestyle for him to be flexible. I don't like to sit still for too long and the girls keep us busy between school, softball, soccer, birthday parties to attend, etc so this little guy is already used to being on the go!
Initially, I didn't think he held his head up as well as the girls from birth, but he's definitely gotten stronger just in the last few days. My absolute favorite thing that he does is this little noise he makes. It usually happens after he sneezes. It's like he thinks he has another one coming, but when he doesn't sneeze again he lets out this big sigh/exhale thing and it is just too sweet and funny!
At Adam's one month appointment he was 22" long (50-75%), 15" head circumference (50%) and 9 lbs, 7 oz (25-50%). Everything is great with him. He had everyone worried for a while since his first newborn screening came back abnormal. The second screening brought wonderful news, that he is indeed healthy and we are so grateful. The hematoma he was born with on his head is really starting to go down as well. He had to get a shot and was hysterical!! He cried for quite a while. When he gets mad his entire body turns red.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE having a little baby. I'm cherishing everything baby. Justin mentioned how I give Adam a lot more baths than I did the girls, and my response was that he is my last baby to bathe! That's pretty much my attitude about everything. He is just too sweet and precious. Even though he's only been here a month, he's always been part of our family....we just didn't know it!
I had to include a fussy one just for good measure!
